Unlike most of the other entries in this series, we aren't thrown headfirst into the action. Instead, Archer has given us a more measured pace befitting the search for peace and escape from the realities of war by both the hero and the heroine. From there, the action slowly builds until the crescendo of stopping a madman.

This is the last of the series. Unfortunately, there will never be a NIGHTS OF GOLD installment either. *sad* 3.5 out of 5.

I read this book in one sitting. I found the story interesting, Fletcher and Kali seemed real. They both had so much to over come and I am glad the romance took a while to develop. I am not sure if I will read the other books in the series, but I definitely recommend this one.
Zoe Archer's new "Skies of Gold," is a very solid novel. Yes, it has a great romance, and yes there is some nail-biting action, but Archer keeps elevating her tales so that one can read this for the pure, eloquent drama of two 'broken' characters who capture us as people, people we come to care deeply about. I think she's one of the really fine writers of the genre and beyond the genre - this story will not let go of you until the final word.
I can't begin to say how much I loved this story. Fletcher and Kali need each other. Their mental state is damaged and fractured to the point of wanting to secede from society. Not two people were more meant to be together. Loved his vulnerability and her tenacious determination. Beautiful, touching tale.
Skies of Gold was an interesting read. I enjoyed the steampunk aspect--this is my first adventure in that particular genre. I also enjoyed the setting, all cold and foggy and remote. For some reason I can't quite identify, tho, I didn't feel very invested in the characters. That cut into my pleasure in reading their story. And the sex, well, not much, so that was also kind of disappointing. But I would recommend it for sheer entertainment value.
I loved this story. The heroine and hero are outside the norm of romance h&h, both highly individual people, flawed and nearly broken by their society. Trapped together on a remote island, they can save each other, if they aren't destroyed first by an unexpected enemy.

Loved how the hero is connected to his ship in a symbiotic relationship, yet still a man who loves, who hurts, who dreams.

Loved the feisty, intelligent heroine who is willing to give up society altogether rather than live with what she can't bear.
I love this series and the Man O' Wars. Skies of Gold is a bit different from past books and, admittedly, moves a bit slower, with the action only really happening in the end.

However, this gave the perfect opportunity to explore Kali and Fletcher's personalities in depth. They were solid, fleshed out characters with some wonderful tension. As someone who values character over everything, I really enjoyed this.

As usual, Zoe infuses feminism into every aspect of the book, something I've come to both expect and admire in her books. Just another reason why she's an auto-buy author for me. I love it.

I'm sad to see this series end...but I haven't read Nico's books in the series yet. That will be happening soon. D

Mikhail is still my favorite Man O' War. BUT these two characters gave me major feels. I couldn't ask for anything more. ) Absolutely recommend you give this series a read if you enjoy steampunk. Though they can be read as stand-alones, reading from book 1 helps.
I was lucky to snag Skies of Gold The Ether Chronicles as a cheapie (along with most of the rest of the books in this series) I really liked this steampunk romance offering by Zoe Archer (she is writing this series with her hubby Nico Russo and they are alternating books.)

Both of the characters in Skies of Gold are great and both are damaged. Fletcher is a mech-enhanced Man of War captain of a downed airship who is so tired of being a weapon he's decided to remain `dead' on the deserted island where his ship crashed, his isolation comes to an end when inventor Kali shows up also suffering from PTSD having lost her friends and her leg in the same battle that damaged his ship. I really liked the way the pair are initially irritated with each other for invading their solace and how they grudgingly become friends and then more. There was a really slow burn up in the romance and the build up in tension between the pair leads to a great steamy payoff. Once Kali and Fletcher are solid the story ramps up and the whole thing is rounded out with a dash of adventure to finish the whole thing off. Good stuff.

Even though this is Archer's third book in the series (and fifth overall), I've only read one other book in the series and it still worked as a standalone since characters from past books were just briefly mentioned. I really enjoyed Skies of Gold and now I definitely need to go back and read Skies of Steel.
